You blinked your eyes as they adjusted to the light. Looking up you saw a mask that looked like a bat.Batman? you thought, and shrunk back as he leaned in closer.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here to help you" he said. He held out his hand and you took it.
"There you go, come on, the police are here to help you as well. What's your name?"
"(F-f-f/n L/n)" You replied. He helped you to your feet and took you over to where the police were. You saw the people who had recruited you to the VR room being taken away on stretchers. They looked horrible.
"What happened to th-?" you said as you turned to Batman again, but only found empty space. You felt faint, and you managed to see two policemen run towards you as everything went black.

~Time Skip~
Your eyes fluttered open. You were staring up at a blank ceiling. You heard voices, so you didn't move and listened.

"I just couldn't leave her there, Max." It sounded like Terry McGinnis, a familiar face at school. You had seen him around, but never really talked to him before.

"The boss won't be very happy about you risking your identity, Terry." He must be talking to Max, one of your close friends.

"I know, but I still want to see if she's ok." he replied. You decided to move. As soon as you rolled over and began to sit up, they stopped talking. You rubbed your eyes and looked over.

Max? Is that you? Where am I?" She rushed over.

"Oh, thank goodness you're alright (y/n)! We were worried sick!" She said as she hugged you. You hugged her back, and looked behind her to find Terry McGinnis, just as you had thought. They stayed for a while then left.

Over the course of the next week, Max visited you three times, and twice Terry came with her. Both times he came, you pretended to sleep for the first few minutes. You found out that Terry was Batman, and his boss was none other than the business man Bruce Wayne, who had been the Batman before Terry. Max was the only other person that knew, besides you now. A week passed and you were out of the hospital, thankfully you hadn't been there as long as some of them had been, so you were basically fine.
"Bye Max! See you later!" you called to her as you walked away. school was done for the day and you were headed home. All of a sudden, you heard a voice.
"Come on (y/n). You know you want to go back. Back to where everybody cares for you..." the voice filled your senses, and you started to black out, but somebody caught you. Looking up, you saw Terry.
"Spellbinder..." he mumbled as he set you down carefully and ran towards where the voice was coming from. You could here the muffled sounds of a fight as you sat in a daze. By the time Terry returned, you had cleared your mind.
"Are you alright, (y/n)?" he asked as he helped you up.
"I'm just fine.... Batman." he looked at you surprised, then sighed.
"You can't tell anybody."
"I know, I know, I heard you and Max." He smiled.
"You know, I kinda had the feeling you were awake... Anyways, might I accompany on your walk home?"
"Of course."
